Contour with Custom Boundary

If you turn on the contour line labels and then apply a custom boundary on the contour plot, you may find some of the labels "disappear". It is in fact placed outside of the custom boundary and thus be clipped off. To show the labels, you can turn off the labels and turn on again to make them auto-reposition:

  1. Double click on the contour plot to open the Plot Details dialog. On the Colormap/Contours tab, click "Label" column header to open the Contour Labels dialog.
  2. Select Hide All radio box (if you check Show on Major Levels Only, uncheck it first). Click OK to return to the Plot Details dialog.
  3. Click OK to close the Plot Details dialog.
  4. Double click on the contour plot to open the Plot Details dialog again. On the Colormap/Contours tab, turn on the labels again.
  5. Click OK to close the dialog and see the change.

Contour without Custom Boundary

If your contour plot has no custom boundary but you still find some labels disappear, it is because these labels are auto-positioned outside the layer frame and then clipped off from the graph. To show the labels, you can:

  1. Unclip data first. Double click on the contour plot to open the Plot Details dialog. Select layer level on the left and activate Display tab on the right. Uncheck Clip Data to Frame. This will show data (including labels) out of frame.

  2. Click the label out of frame to select it, then drag it to reposition it inside the layer frame.
  3. After all labels are dragged back inside layer frame, reopen the Plot Details dialog and turn on Clip Data to Frame.
