5.58 FAQ-908 After upgrading to 2018, when I copy data I get an error message: "Out of memory, too much data is requested, operation failed".

Last Update: 12/8/2017

After upgrading to Origin 2018, some users have reported that copying data produces the error message: "Out of memory, too much data is requested, operation failed".

The problem is caused by a combination of (a) a western languages version of the Windows OS and (b) a user name that contains non-English letters. The workaround is to change the TMP and TEMP environment variables to remove the user name:

  1. In Win10 or Win8/8.1, search for "System" in the Search bar.
  2. Click Advanced system settings.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
  4. Under User variables for User, edit TEMP and TMP variables, removing the user name variable that stores the non-English letters (%USERPROFILE%), and changing Variable value to, for example, C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp.
  5. Restart Windows.

Keywords:User variables, environment variables, special characters
