If you have Microsoft Office 64bit application installed, and try to open the Insert Equation tool in Origin 32 bit application, you may also encounter this error. It is probably caused by Microsoft Office not update the Registry correctly when installed equation editor. To fix it, you need to manually update the Registry as follow.

  1. Run

    in Windows command window to open Registry Editor, find the Equation.3 branch for 64bit, it should be:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {0002CE02-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
  2. Right click on that branch, select Export to export it, for example export it as file MyEquation64.reg.
  3. Open the saved MyEquation64.reg with a Notepad. Replace all "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID" with "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Wow6432Node\CLSID". Then save the file.
  4. Double click on MyEquation64.reg to merge the content to Registry.
  5. Start 32 bit Origin. Try insert Equation to graph. It should work fine now.
