2.119 FAQ-1053 How to allow changing data when data connector is used?

Last Update: 7/27/2020

Data imported by Data Connector is protected by default:

  • Data imported via Text/CSV Connector is not editable, but sortable.
  • Data imported via Connector types other than Text/CSV, is neither editable nor sortable.

If you want to change the editing and/or sorting behaviors, please manipulate the value of system variable @IPDC BEFORE import data via Connector.,

To allow sorting data imported via Connector other than Text/CSV type, but still prevent editing:

  1. Select Preference: System Variables....
  2. In the Set System Variables dialog, type "IPDC" in Variable column and "1" in Value .
    Allow edit data by DC.png
  3. Import data by Data Connector.

To allow free-editing and sorting of data imported via any type of Connector, like those imported by Data: Import from File menu:

  1. Select Preference: System Variables....
  2. In the Set System Variables dialog, type "IPDC" in Variable column and "0" in Value .
  3. Import data by Data Connector.

To edit connected data after import:

To affect editing behaviors via @IPDC, you must modify the value of the system variable before connecting to your data. To modify data after connecting, you can click the Connector icon Dadta connector icon connect.png and choose one of the following:

  • Disconnect Sheet: Remove the connection between the worksheet/matrix and the data source. Also remove edit protections. The connector icon remains allowing you to reconnect to your data source (at which time, edit protections will be restored).
  • Remove Data Connector: Permanently remove Data Connectors from all sheets in the active book. Edit protections are removed from all sheets. In addition, remove Exclude Imported When Saving check mark.
