Protecting Origin Projects

To protect your files, Origin allows users setting password to your project. And once the project password was set, no one can open the OPJ file without entering the correct password. Besides, Origin also allows an audit log that keeps track of the modification of the project.

Password Protection on OPJ

Password protection, if enabled, will lock the entire project. No matter how you open the OPJ (such as appending, using script or OC etc), correct password must be entered. To set the password, select Tools: Protection: Protect Project from the main menu. Then the Password dialog will pop up for entering new passwords. Once you set and confirm the password, you will be asked to enter the correct password when you open the OPJ next time.

To change the password, open the same dialog and enter the old and new passwords respectively.

Audit Log

Audit log can be used to track who changed the OPJ at what time. This auditing feature is disabled by default. Once this feature is enabled, Origin will log the user name (Windows System's login user) and time when the OPJ is saved.

To enable audit log, select Tools: Protection: Audit Log from the Origin menu, and then click the Enable button. Origin will asks you to set up the audit log password. This is an optional step, and if password was set, you need to enter the password when disabling auditing. This log can be viewed by anyone but can only be stopped by those who know the password.

To stop logging, open the same dialog and click the Disable button. You will be asked to enter the password if one has been set.
