Origin's Polar chart makes it easy to display data and equations in polar coordinates
(angle and radius or angle and magnitude).
Uses for polar plots include mapping wind speeds and direction or creating
radar graphs. The polar chart can also be used to create wind
charts or rose diagrams. This type of graph is also known as a windrose.

Polar Graph

Polar Graph Example
|
|
The polar graph plots radial position (Y) versus the angular value (X).
Units are in degrees.
The graph's default display shows 90 degrees at the top, but the graph
can be oriented with the 0° (360°) value at the top as well.
In addition, you can define an angular range so that only a portion (e.g.
only the 0° to 90° quadrant) displays.
This graph's default is to include each dataset as a Line plot, but you
can change the line plot to a Scatter, Line & Symbol, or Column/Bar
plot with the click of a toolbar button.

This Polar plot shows how the fill area under curve option can be
used to enhance the visibility of each data plot in the graph. A degree
mark (°) and percent (%) suffix have been added to the X and Y axis
tick labels, respectively.

Windrose Charts

Windrose Example
|
|
Origin's Polar chart can also be used to create Windrose charts.
Windroses are used to present wind speed data and wind direction data
that has been collected over some time, so that the dominant wind pattern
for a particular area can be determined. Windroses are also useful as
they project a large quantity of data in a simple graphical plot.
Typical Windrose plots are created by changing your Line data plots to
Column/Bar plots after plotting your data to the Polar graph.

This Polar chart shows how data in Origin's Polar chart
can be displayed as Column/Bar plots so that the graph becomes a Windrose.
