Researchers want a graphing and analysis package that is
quick and easy to use. Origin gives you that and much more
with an extensive array of features aimed at making it very
easy to manage, graph, and analyze your data.
Multi-sheet workbooks
 |
|
Origin’s new multi-sheet workbooks with rich-text formatting let you consolidate and manage imported data, related analysis results, graphs, images, and database queries. Data can be plotted from any worksheet into any graph. The ability to embed graphs and merge cells lets you quickly and easily create high-quality reports for presentation of both tabular and graphical results. |

Import a wide variety of data formats
 |
|
Origin includes the ability to import data from nearly two dozen file formats. Settings during import can be saved to a theme, making it an easy task to import data of a similar format in the future. Origin's Import Wizard greatly simplifies the process of importing ASCII and Binary data. A data preview is provided, as well as controls to import any metadata included in the file. Settings from the Import Wizard can also be saved so that you never have to step through the wizard again. If your data is stored in a database, you can query the database and attach the query to a workbook so that when the database is updated re-importing the data is as simple as clicking a button. |

Create and customize plots quickly and easily

|
Plot Setup Dialog
provides intuitive interface for plotting
If you need more advanced plotting power, look no further
than Origin's Plot Setup dialog. This intuitive interface
allows you to quickly and easily select the data you would
like to plot, as well as configure its plot settings. Data
from any worksheet within the project, including Excel files opened in Origin, can be plotted without
ever leaving the dialog. In one step, you can even plot columns
of the same name from multiple worksheets.

Edit data plot
properties
with the Style toolbar
Make quick changes to your data plots using the Style
toolbar. Line and border color, thickness, and connection
type as well as the pattern, pattern color, and pattern width
can be updated using the Style toolbar. All color drop-down
lists even include color palettes that can be used to quickly
change the colors for a group of data plots. |
 |
|
Point and click editing of any graph element:
A Plot Details dialog box is provided for advanced editing
of data plots. Double-clicking on any graph element will bring
up the dialog with the proper information showing based on
your selection.

Create and update
text labels with in-place text editing
Creating a text label or double-clicking on an existing
one allows you to edit the label in place as opposed to in
a dialog box. This makes changing your text much quicker.
A Format toolbar is provided to assist you.

Take advantage of Origin's capability to Automate Analysis
 |
|
Recalculation of analysis results
Origin can automatically recalculate the results of your analysis operation when your source data or parameters changes using the powerful Recalculation feature. |
 |
|
Automate your work by creating an Analysis Template™
Set up an Origin project (OPJ) with all the analysis complete and graphs created. Then, clear the data and save the OPJ to create an Analysis Template. Simply open the OPJ, import your data, sit back and let Origin do the work.

You can drag and drop files to import them into your Analysis Template, thereby triggering the analysis, or, if you’re using the same data file each time, you can use the “re-import” feature. Re-import lets you bring in the same data file that was imported into the Analysis Template before so that the analysis automatically recalculates on the updated data. |
Organize your work
 |
|
Organize
your templates using the Template Library
Categorize custom as well as built-in graph, workbook, and matrix book templates, as
well as plot your data using this straight-forward dialog.
The Template Library includes a preview of your graph template
to make choosing the right graph template
easy. |

|
Organize
data, graphs, and results with Project Explorer
The Project Explorer is a floating, dockable tool that helps
you organize the contents of your Origin projects. It is particularly
useful if you are working with a large project since it can
be used to develop a folder structure (much like in Microsoft®
Windows Explorer) for organizing the child windows in the
project into a custom, hierarchical structure. You can also use this tool to control the view of
your workspace and save folders as separate projects.

Store all your data, metadata, notes, graphs, and results in one file
 |
|
Save
all your work in one convenient file
The Origin Project (OPJ) file can contain one or more child
windows (workbooks, graphs, etc.), as well as analysis results and attached files. Windows can be organized into any arbitrary, hierarchical structure using Project Explorer. |
 |
|
Share your work
with your colleagues
OPJs can accept any type of file attachment (e.g.
Microsoft® Word, Excel, Adobe® Acrobat® PDF, as well as Origin C (*.OC) and Origin Script (*.OGS)
files), making sharing your work with your colleagues very
easy. Attached Origin C files automatically compile and are
ready for use. Origin Script files are also immediately accessible.

Seemlessly deliver customizations to your entire group
 |
|
The Group Folder feature
Customers who purchase the Concurrent Network version of Origin can take advantage of this feature to share custom files such as templates and fitting functions with other members of the Concurrent Network, publish Origin Service Releases (patches) to other members of the Concurrent Network, or update the location of the FLEXnet service to a different machine for all members. |
