Summary:

Draw two tangents for estimating the Tafel Extrapolation in a graph curve.

Screen Shot and Video:
Description:

A. Requirements

Origin 7.5 SR0 or higher.

B. Installation

Run Tafel.opk by double-clicking the file or drag-and-drop it to Origin interface. Setup will create the 3-buttons Tafel toolbar. The demonstrated GIF file Tafel.gif and Sample OPJ file Tafel.opj also are including in this pack.

C. Operation

Left button [Tangent1]:
Start Data Reader tool to get first coordinate of a given curve. Press Enter or double-click on a point to plot Tangent 1 (Magenta color) to the curve at that point. The formula of Tangent 1 is shown in a text label (Magenta color) at the top-left of the graph.

Middle button [Tangent2]:
Also use the Data Reader tool to get second coordinate of a given curve. Press Enter or double-click on another point to plot Tangent 2 (Cyan color) to the curve at that point. The formula of Tangent 2 is shown in a text label (Cyan color) at the top-right of the graph.

Right button [Intersection]:
After the selection of two tangents is well done, single-click this button, and therefore the intersection of two tangents will be estimated. The coordinate of Intersection is shown in a text label (Yellow and Green color) at the bottom of the graph.

D. Programming Note
Curve_derivative function in Origin C language has a smoothness parameter that affects the calculated derivatives. This tool uses Origin 7.5 default value for that parameter BSPLN_OFF. If your tangents appear to be wrong, you could adjust the smoothness parameter in the file Tafel.c. For details, please look for Curve_derivative in Origin Programming Help System. (Located on Programming \ Origin C Language Reference \ Global Functions \ Analysis \ Curve_derivative.

04/19/2019ferdinandoCran Chu, afternoon! Could you send me your email? Thanks!

07/31/2018AtiqaAs it is very useful but I don't know how to use it. It doesn't give me the right slope for both.

06/08/2015tanja.schelhornThe tool is not working. I'm using Origin 9.1. When I select a point on the graph I get error message

06/14/2012mazdak86Hi,
thanks for your program. However, when I try to select the points by double clicking or by enter bottom, the tangent line does not appear and by trying to enter the second tangent , the information of the first one is discarded. Consequently, at the end there is neither tangential lines nor their intersection. can you help pleas?

03/26/2006Cran ChuThanks, I'm so happy that you like it. This program is base on tangent.c by you made (I think so). You're too great for sharing a lot of useful tool, thank you again. ^O^
